Discounting is a loan against next quarter
A 20% off email works. That's the trap. It pulls demand forward from customers who would have paid full price, trains everyone else to wait, and leaves the next quarter needing a bigger discount to hit the same number.
The alternative isn't never promoting. It's building enough lifecycle infrastructure that revenue comes from repeat full-price purchases, so promotion becomes a tool you choose rather than a habit you need.
